Mac-Weld Helical Vortex, Threaded, Socket-Weld, Flange, Vanstone Thermowells

Mac-Weld Helical Thermowells, featuring VE Technology, are created to outperform the standard thermowell in high velocity services. Standard thermowells exposed to high velocity flows often fail requirements of ASME PTC-19.3, but vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) are not an issue for helical thermowells. The strakes reduce the amplitude of oscillation as compared to plain cylindrically shaped thermowells. The sharp edges of the three helical strakes separate the flow, and the helical shape redistributes the vortices. As a result, the lift and the drag forces are greatly minimized. With helical strakes, accuracy and response time of temperature measurement is greatly improved as compared to standard thermowells with increased root-tip diameters and shortened immersion length.

Features

  • Reduces amplitude of oscillation by more than 90% compared to standard round bar design
  • Wake frequency calculations are no longer required for helical thermowells. Steady state stress and pressure calculations are sufficient.
  • Fewer limitations due to immersion length
  • Standard installation allows for quick install or replacement
  • The small root and tip diameters allow for fast response to temperature variations
  • Many materials of construction: 316 Stainless Steel, 304 Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, 310 Stainless Steel, 321 Stainless Steel, 347 Stainless Steel, Alloy 20, C-276, Duplex, Incoloy 800, Inconel 600, Inconel 625, Inconel 825, Monel 400, Titanium, More available upon request
  • Perfect for nozzles with small ID and high standoff length

Applications

  • All industries that measure high velocity processes
