Dynamic braking resistors (DBR) are used to absorb energy that is being regenerated back into a drive unit by a freewheeling motor. DBRs release that energy in the form of heat. DBRs are designed according to the parameters of a given drive and/or application. Each drive has a specific minimum and maximum braking resistance chosen to protect the drive itself.
